Writing Links I Wanted to Share

Here are some interesting writing links I’ve found that I think the writers among my audience will enjoy. The first of two links is a list of 25 Writing Rules by author Chuck Wendig (whose latest dark fantasy novels BLACKBIRDS and MOCKINGBIRD have been getting great reviews). WARNING: LIST CONTAINS NSFW LANGUAGE. But it’s a long post, but he raises some good points. Of course, there are also some fundamental rules that most writers have likely heard before, but there’s nothing wrong with getting a reminder now and then.

The second of the two links about writing advice is, well, not a link so much as an embedded video. See how easy I can make things for you? Coincidentally enough, the second link is the second episode of “The Story Board” (a Geek & Sundry web series). Hosted by Patrick Rothfuss, this week’s episode is about writing interesting characters, and it features authors Amber Benson, Bradley Beaulieu, and Mary Robinette-Kowal, as well as a special guest appearance by Terry Brooks.

It’s long, but worth it. If you like it (and I hope you do), be sure to subscribe to Geek & Sundry so that they can keep making good things like this.

Alright, that’s all the links for now. Time to go back to writing, everyone. I hope you find the links useful. If you do or don’t, please let me know. And if you know of a podcast, a video, or a website I should share with readers, please let me know about them too.

A Very Sleepy Programming Note

I stayed up waaaaaaaay too late last night watching the Rangers-Caps game, so I am very sleepy (and I didn’t even make it all the way through the third overtime, but since the Caps lost, that’s fine). And on top of that, I need to submit some critiques for my writing group before I go out of town this weekend (not to mention actually, you know, write). So instead, go over to John Scalzi’s blog or Geek and Sundry’s YouTube page to watch an hour-long discussion of writing between Felicia Day, Amber Benson, Patrick Rothfuss, and John Scalzi (and be sure to subscribe to Geek and Sundry’s channel).
